Wizard’s Odyssey
Welcome painters to the Isle of Wonders painting competition, Wizards Odyssey! We at Isle of Wonders appreciate the work artists do to bring a piece of their imagination to life, allowing us to enter a fantastical world of wonder. To celebrate these artists, we have decided to organize a miniature painting competition for beginners and masters alike. Here you will find rules for participating and registering your works of art for our competition. Together with your artistic offerings, let us create a journey through the fantastical realms, worthy of a great wizard! Good luck, and may your brushstrokes bring wonder to our isle!

The Wizard’s Odyssey is a three-day event. You can only participate if you have filled out the registration form (online or at the event booth), paid for your participation fee, and have handed over your models at our registration desk.
During the registration process (either online or on site), you will be prompted to choose which category to compete in. There is no limit to the number of chosen categories or the models with which you can participate in. Be mindful that the registration fee will depend on the number of models you choose to participate with.
The email used in the registration form will be used to receive your owners list during model drop-off at our registration desk. Please be mindful to properly fill out the registration form.
Participants are required to buy the 3-day pass and pay and an additional fee, Wizard’s Odyssey Pass, depending how many models they plan to enter:
4€ - 1 to 3 models
7€ - 4 to 7 models
10€ - 8 to 12 models
There are four categories to participate in: Single small model, Single large model, Diorama and Bust.
- Single small model:
This category is tailored for painters who excel in the intricate details of smaller-scale miniatures. Entries in the Single Small Model category should adhere to the following size limitations: 28mm - 75mm model size. Artists are encouraged to showcase their skill in capturing the essence of characters or creatures within the confines of a compact canvas.
- Single large model
The Single Large Model category caters to those who relish the challenge of larger miniatures. Entries in this category should adhere to size limitations: 75mm - 150mm model size. Participants are invited to unleash their creativity on a grander scale, bringing larger-than-life characters, creatures, or figures to vivid, awe-inspiring reality.
- Diorama
Craft a captivating narrative within a confined space in the Diorama category. Entries should adhere to size limitations: the total base dimensions should not exceed 400mm x 400mm and there is no hight limit. This category challenges artists to create a visually stunning scene that tells a story, combining multiple miniatures, scenic elements, and imaginative details within a limited space.
- Bust
The Bust category celebrates the artistry of facial expressions and upper torsos. Participants are tasked with bringing characters to life through detailed depictions of faces and upper bodies. This category is ideal for those who appreciate the nuances of character portrayal and wish to showcase their mastery within the specified size constraints.
Each category has two levels: standard and master.
Standard: This level is meant for beginners and miniature panting enthusiasts who have yet to win their first prize in a contest.
Master: This level is meant for experienced who have won prizes in various larger competitions such as: SMC, Kontrast, Freakwars, Golden Demon etc. Masters are separated from other levels in order not to discourage others from participating in the competition and to enable masters to compete amongst the best.
Note that the judges may move an entry from standard to masters or vice versa if they deem it necessary.
Theme:
While the models won’t be judged based on theme, we encourage painters to immerse themselves in the essence of fantastical worlds, weaving tales of heroism, magic, and wonder through their miniature masterpieces. Whether it's capturing the mystique of hidden realms, depicting epic battles between mythical beings, or bringing to life iconic characters from fantasy lore, the theme of the Wizard’s Odyssey encourages a diverse array of interpretations within the magical realms of fantasy.
- Other than registration to participate in the contest you will need to hand over your models to our staff at the registration desk. The number of models that can be submitted depends on your registration fee.
- You have until 02:00 PM (CET; UTC+01:00) on June 28th, 2024. to hand over your models or your participation will be considered forfeit. If you wish you may place your models yourself in the exhibition area, under staff supervision.
- After model drop-off the models will be placed in the exhibition area on the contest tables.
- Models are not permitted to be taken from the contest tables until Sunday after closing of the award ceremony! Exceptions to this rule can only be made by the contest supervisors.
- Please note: the jury must be able to move a model for judging purposes. This is not subject to discussion.
- By entering and participating in the competition you automatically agree with the above rules.
- Participating is at your own risk. The staff members cannot be held responsible for damages caused to your models or property. We do however make every effort to minimize the risks.
