Tyler Jacobson is an American fantasy and science fiction illustrator renowned for his evocative and cinematic artwork. Born in Oakland, California, he has become a prominent figure in the world of fantasy art, contributing to major franchises and publications.
Jacobson’s illustrations have graced the pages of notable publications such as Entertainment Weekly, Rolling Stone, Texas Monthly, and Scientific American. His oil painting “Last Days of The Comanches” was featured in Texas Monthly, showcasing his ability to capture historical narratives with depth and emotion.
In the realm of gaming, Jacobson is best known for his extensive work with Magic: The Gathering, having illustrated nearly 100 cards by April 2020. His painting of Drizzt Do’Urden for the Adventures in the Forgotten Realms set sold for a record-breaking $155,000, placing it among the top five highest public prices for original Magic art. Additionally, he has made significant contributions to Dungeons & Dragons, serving as the cover artist for the 5th Edition Player’s Handbook and Dungeon Master’s Guide in 2014, and designing covers for the revised editions of these core rulebooks in 2024.
Beyond gaming, Jacobson is the art director for Matthew Lillard’s “Quest’s End” whiskey line, where he is responsible for bottle art and design, including detailed maps and illustrations that accompany an original fantasy story by Kate Welch.
